چکیده

By controlling the alkalinity and the amount of phosphotungstic acid (PTA), turbidity and gelling in the final colored solution obtained in the reaction between uric acid and PTA in the presence of sodium glycerol silicate (NaGS) can be eliminated without using antiturbidity reagents. The optimum range of alkalinity is 0.55-0.76 mEq. of excessalkali in a total volumeof 7.75 ml. A modification of the Archibald (1) method is proposed to assure optimum color development between uric acid and PTA-whether the uric acid is in an acidic protein-free filtrate or in a practically neutral aqueousstandardsolution.

Colorimetric measurement of uric acid.

HEN ASKED IN 1942 to find a method for the determination of plasma or serum uric acid suitable for inclusion in the War Department’s Technical Manual 8-227, Method,s for Laboratory Technicians, the author believed that the procedure of Kern and Stransky (1) filled the requirements admirably. In this modification, toxic and heat-labile sodium cyanide solution wa replaced by the effective but non...

Phosphotungstic Acidcatalyzed Strecker Three-Component Reaction of Amino Acids, Aldehydes, and Trimethylsilyl Cyanide

A simple and efficient one-pot, three-component Strecker reaction of protected amino acids, aromatic aldehydes, and trimethylsilyl cyanide has been developed for the synthesis of chiral α-amino nitriles. The reaction was carried out in the presence of catalytic amount of phosphotungstic acid (H3[P(W3O10)4]) as an environmentally friendly cata...

Sub-ppm determination of uric acid using a sensitive kinetic-catalytic reaction system

A sensitive and selective kinetic-spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of trace amounts of uric acid. The method is based on the inhibitory effect of uric acid on the oxidation of Janus Green by bromate in the presence of sulfuric acid. The reaction was followed spectrophotometrically by measuring the absorbance at 518 nm using the fixed-time method. Under optimum exper...

Immobilizing Phosphotungstic Acid on Al2O3-ZnO Nano Mixed Oxides as Heterogeneous Catalyst for Biodiesel Production by Esterification of Free Fatty Acids

In this study, esterification reaction of different carboxylic acids (Acetic acid, Palmitic acid, Oleic acid) with ethanol was investigated by ZnO, Al2O3-ZnO mixed oxide and phosphotungestic acid (10 %wt) immobilized on the Al2O3-ZnO mixed oxide. The heterogeneous catalysts were characterized by XRD, BET, FE-SEM and EDX techniques. Optimum yield was achieved by using 10% HPW/Al2O3-ZnO as the be...

Janus Green Dye as a New Reagent for Catalytic Kinetic Determination of Zirconium in Ceramic Materials

A new catalytic kinetic spectrophotometric procedure for determination of trace quantities of zirconium was proposed. Janus Green was oxidized by potassium bromate and zirconium catalyst which then converted to a colorless product in acidic media. Reaction rate was monitored spectrophotometrically at 606 nm. It relies on the linear relationship between the absorbance difference (ΔAt) and Zr(IV)...
